{"id":3813,"date":"2022-04-10T18:33:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-10T16:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crtdrtetb.com\/wp-global-styles-newspaper-57\/"},"modified":"2022-04-10T20:41:11","modified_gmt":"2022-04-10T18:41:11","slug":"where-to-eat-in-havana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cubarealtours.com\/en\/where-to-eat-in-havana\/","title":{"rendered":"Where to eat in Havana"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When Fidel Castro\u2019s brother Raoul took over the country in 2008, he allowed the gradual privatization of hotels and restaurants, forming today\u2019s bed &amp; breakfasts and paladar restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubarealtours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/havana-restaurant-food.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1669\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, you have two main eating choices: government restaurants and those operated by locals. While the menus tend to be very similar, you\u2019ll find slightly better service at the latter.<br>What\u2019s on the menu? A traditional dish that I personally loved is ropa vieja, which translated means \u201cold clothes\u201d and features stewed shredded beef with vegetables slow-cooked in a pressure cooker. Another popular offering to tourists is lobster. I had this twice and while portions were extremely generous both times I found the seafood to be overcooked and rubbery. Some restaurants might be a hit though!<br>For drinks, make sure to try Havana Club rum and Mojitos. The best drink makers tend to be tucked away and hidden.<br>Here are a couple of the most well-known restaurants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paladar Dona Carmela<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My tour guide moonlighted as a night security officer at this not-so-secret celebrity spot. Beyonc\u00e9 and Jay Z dined here (their picture hangs inside) and the menu focuses on traditional Cuban dishes like roast pork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubarealtours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/cuba-food-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1668\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>La Guarida<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an incredible spot, located in a crumbling building in Centro Havana. From peeling paint to a grand central staircase you absolutely need to try a meal here, even if prices are slightly higher than elsewhere. The quirky interior, unique menu and incredible city views make this a must-try spot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubarealtours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/la-guarida-restaurant-havana.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1692\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Casa 1830<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This gorgeous restaurant has multiple dining rooms both indoor and outdoor and features the classic \u201csteak or lobster\u201d 3-course menu. At the end of the meal, we were treated to Romeo and Juliet cigars, which made for a fun souvenir!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cubarealtours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/hacana-hotel-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1689\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>La Fontana Havana<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come here for the local Cuban classics: beans, chorizo, pork chops and more and stay afterward to dance the night away.
